How to sterilise your KIND CUP:
- Before using your KIND CUP and between cycles, you should always sterilising your menstrual cup.
- Submerge your cup in a small pot of water and bring to a boil for 3-5 minutes to sterilise your cup. Remember not to let the cup touch the base of the pot.
- Let the water and cup cool down completely before handling or inserting your KIND CUP.
Inserting your KIND CUP:
STEP 1
After sterilising your cup, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
STEP 2
Wet your cup with cold, clean water which acts as a natural lubricant for gentle insertion. (Refrain from using petroleum jelly and stick to water-based or natural lubricants).
STEP 3
Fold the cup between your thumb and forefinger, many women find that folding in a C shape inserts easiest. Alternative folding options can be explored to find the most comfortable fold for your body.
(See more under "How to fold your KIND CUP" section below).
STEP 4
Breath and relax.....It's important to completely relax when inserting the KIND CUP. Find a comfortable position, ideally a squat which most ladies prefer. Gently push the lubricated, folded cup into your vagina and position your cup a little lower than a tampon, or until the stem can be felt 1-2 cm inside of the vagina.
STEP 5
The most important step...release the fold and allow the KIND CUP to open completely. Feel around the base of the cup or around the rim to make 100% sure the entire cup has unfolded and is securely inserted.
Once your menstrual cup is in place, try to pull the stem a bit, if you feel resistance, the suction seal has been created and the cup has been inserted correctly!
A snug fit creates the required suction that is necessary for a leak-free flow.
Removing your KIND CUP:
Now this is where the fun starts :)
We recommend emptying your KIND CUP while in the shower or over the toilet.
Step 1:
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
Step 2:
Find a comfortable position, ideally a squat. Breath and relax.
Step 3:
Use your thumb and forefinger to locate the stem of your cup and very gently pull the stem down. Once your KIND CUP reaches the entrance to the vagina, stop pulling.
Your cup might move up, and you might find it hard to reach the stem, if this happens, try sitting on the toilet, relax completely and then push as if your making a wee, this will help push the cup down so you can feel the stem. Remember what goes up, must come down again.
Step 4:
Move your grip the base of the cup and gently press to release the suction. This will allow you to slowly pull the cup out completely with a firm grip on the cup (not the stem) to avoid spilling.
Step 5
Rinse your cup with clean water and reinsert or sterilise and store for your next cycle.
You can leave menstrual cups in for up to 12 hours.
- As a guide, on heavier days you might want to empty your cup every three or four hours.
- On light days you can leave it for up to 12 hours.
